Knitting needles on a plane

How is it that knitting needles are not a threat to national security?

If my Old Timer teensy little pen knife can be proclaimed a threat, I would really like to know just how it is that a pair of foot-long knitting needles can pass TSA screening and fly on my plane.

BTW, these are little compared to last spring's pair in first class on a US Airways flight. Those were over two feet long, each.

Of course, the pretty peeps in first class usually have better stuff.

Meanwhile, could I have my knife back, Houston?
