It is so easy for us to think of Canada as model of tolerance to which the United States should strive.
Well, that might be the case, now and again, but don't get the idea that Canada is without the homophobic wingnut. It has it's share, as we see here.
An openly gay member of parliament who married his husband in 2007 mailed the usual Christmas card to constituents this year. The card showed the couple standing in a field with their dog looking out over the ocean.
Such seems sufficient to start armaggdon, does it not.
Apparently it is sufficient for the few very vocal haters in Nova Scotia. Meanwhile, support rolls in for the two and the card. This mess will pass.
At least, they can marry and stand proudly in public as a loving committed couple without spending tens of thousands of dollars to claim the rights that het couples get by virtue of a fortuitous birth.
